Florianópolis has 42 official beaches. For calm family swimming: Praia dos Ingleses or Canasvieiras. For fashionable beach clubs: Jurerê Internacional. For surfing: Joaquina. For pristine wilderness: Lagoinha do Leste (trail access only). For fresh oysters and fishing village: Ribeirão da Ilha.
December–March (high season): warm water 26–28°C, peak beach conditions, busy and expensive. April–May / September–November: pleasant weather, quieter, better value. June–August (winter): cooler (17–22°C), deserted beaches, excellent seafood, outstanding coastal hiking.
