5 days: Sajama National Park, flamingo lagoons, Salar de Uyuni & Eduardo Avaroa Reserve. Private 4WD from La Paz. English guide. Book now.
Five days. Three of Bolivia’s most extraordinary natural areas. One continuous journey across the roof of South America. This tour combines Sajama National Park, the Salar de Uyuni, and the Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve — home to the Red Lagoon, the Dali Desert, and the Green Lagoon at the foot of a 6,000m volcano on the Bolivian-Chilean border. It is the most comprehensive altiplano tour available from La Paz, covering Bolivia’s volcanic heritage, Andean wildlife, pre-Columbian history, and the two most visually dramatic salt landscapes in the world.
La Paz → Sajama National Park
Depart La Paz at 7:00 AM and travel across the spectacular Bolivian Altiplano toward Condoramaya, where you will discover ancient Aymara mummy tombs.
Continue to Curahuara de Carangas, known as the “Sistine Chapel of the Andes,” and admire its extraordinary 16th-century Renaissance frescoes.
Arrive at Sajama National Park and relax in its natural hot springs, with waters reaching approximately 35°C.
Dinner and overnight in the area.
Sajama Lagoons & Salar del Coipasa
Start early and head to Huayña Khota Lagoon, where flamingos and vicugnas can be spotted among the high-altitude landscapes.
Continue through native keñua forests toward three spectacular lagoons near the Chilean frontier, with opportunities to observe llamas, alpacas, and Andean wildlife along the way.
Enjoy lunch in Sabaya village before visiting the remote Salar del Coipasa, a vast and lesser-known salt desert surrounded by dramatic Altiplano scenery.
Overnight in Jirira town.
Uyuni Salt Flats
Spend the day exploring the extraordinary Salar de Uyuni. Visit Los Ojos de Agua Salada and the Salt Hotel Museum, then continue to Isla Incahuasi for a hike among giant cacti and fascinating petrified coral formations.
Enjoy time for creative perspective photographs across the endless white surface of the salar.
Finish the day with sunset from Pia Pia Island, surrounded by the spectacular landscapes of the salt flats.
Overnight in Uyuni or a traditional salt hotel.
Southern Lagoons & Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve
Begin the day early and travel through the Chiguana Desert, stopping at the Ollagüe Volcano lookout point (5,840 m) for impressive views of one of Bolivia’s active volcanoes.
Continue along the rocky Pasito Tuntun road toward the famous flamingo lagoons: Laguna Cañapa, Laguna Hedionda, where lunch is served, and Laguna Chiarcota.
Enter the spectacular Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve and continue to the Desert of Siloli (4,550 m), considered the highest desert in the world.
Stop to photograph the iconic Rock Tree, a striking volcanic formation shaped by wind and erosion.
End the day with sunset views over Laguna Colorada (Red Lagoon), where thousands of pink flamingos can often be seen against the vivid red waters.
Overnight near the reserve.
Geysers, Dali Desert & Green Lagoon
Begin before sunrise at 5:00 AM and travel to the Sol de Mañana Geyser Field (5,000 m). Walk among steaming fumaroles and bubbling mud pots, where geothermal activity creates an extraordinary landscape.
Continue through the surreal Dali Desert, named for its resemblance to the landscapes found in the works of Salvador Dalí.
Your final stop is Laguna Verde (Green Lagoon), known for its striking copper-mineral waters at the foot of Licancabur Volcano (6,000 m), near the Bolivia–Chile border.
From here, arrive back in Uyuni or continue onward to San Pedro de Atacama, concluding an unforgettable journey through Bolivia’s high-altitude deserts, lagoons, volcanoes, and salt flats.
