Rainforest trekking in Madidi National Park: eco-lodge, a night camping in the jungle, macaw cliffs and a handmade raft down the Tuichi River.
Madidi National Park is one of the most biodiverse places on Earth, where the Andes meet the Amazon. This 3-day jungle tour from Rurrenabaque combines an indigenous eco-lodge, guided rainforest treks, one night camping deep in the jungle and the macaw cliffs, ending with a ride on a raft you help build. English-speaking local guide and all meals included.
Rurrenabaque → Villa Alicia community → Eco-lodge
Start at 8:30 AM. Travel up the Beni and Tuichi rivers and walk to the indigenous community, where you learn about local traditions. Arrive at the eco-lodge around midday for a welcome juice and lunch. In the afternoon, a guided trek on trails designed for spotting wildlife.
Trek to the jungle camp
Breakfast at 7:30 AM, then a 5-hour trek into the heart of the jungle carrying your sleeping bag, mat and mosquito net. Look for monkeys, wild pigs and spiders, and learn about traditional medicine. After dinner, a night walk: armadillos, snakes, night monkeys, tapirs and, with luck, the roar of the jaguar.
Macaw cliffs → Raft on the river → Rurrenabaque
Wake up at 6:30 AM to the howler monkeys. After breakfast, hike to the macaw cliffs to see macaws and parrots. Then build a traditional raft and float about 2 hours back to the lodge for lunch. Return to Rurrenabaque around 4:00 PM.
By a 1-hour flight from La Paz, or by bus (about 12 to 18 hours). We can book either for you.
You should be comfortable walking up to 5 hours in heat and humidity on jungle trails.
Insect repellent, sunblock, light long-sleeved clothes, a light jacket, comfortable closed shoes, a flashlight and water.
The jungle (Madidi) is about trekking and rainforest; the Pampas are about wildlife from a boat. Our Madidi & Pampas 5-day tour combines both.
